hah well before everyone tells you DONT BOTHER etc..
personally i'd look for an Accord "2.0Si" motor that is fuel injected.. I think is the same "B20A" as in the pop-up headlight Preludes.. (but dont be fooled it sure as hell aint no B20B/Z) surely you could get one of these for less than $500 in good condition - and it SHOULD bolt to your existing engine mounts, gearbox, axles and linkages etc.. however you may need to address fuel lines and some wiring issues.
I'd guess the 2.0Si motor would give at least 20 ponies over your carby effort and if it IS the B20 unit, it's DOHC so has more tuning potential than a SOHC.
if you want to just tweak the current engine for a bit more poke.. man flush her oil once or twice.. flush the tranny fluid (though prob an auto) etc. New (correct heat range) sparkplugs, new spark plug leads, fresh air-filter (maybe a ram-pod if possible), modify your filter-cover with perhaps some cold-air ducting from your grille/bumper.. then maybe look at a cat-back 2.25" mandrel bent steel exhaust - a mate of mine has 2.5" stainless steel mandrel bent system on his 87 Accord 2.0Si (!!!?!?!??!!).
but yeh u cant do much to that engine on a budget.. but you CAN learn good engine maintenance etc.
thanks for the advice champ. yeh its an auto alright. i was just wondering what potentual it had. i picked the car up for 2.6 wit 261k on it. needs a good service and a few things but i don't know if its worth doin a big engine change-over.
hrm.. being an auto even if you DO manage to pump up the ponies a bit, it aint gonna transfer to the ground all that well.. prob best to focus on handling or looks department of the car than power.
erm ITB's onto a carb setup ? do you know what a carby IS ?
are your carbys keihin ? if so - take them to your local motorbike racing specialist and they should be able to do a performance 'jobby' on your carby. kehin are OEM manufacturers for a lot of motorbikes.
