makes no difference as vti and vti-s both use the f22b1 SOHC vtec engine and the exi uses the non vtec engine.

Vtec kicks in between those reve ranges depending on manifold pressure, ie. how hard you step on the accelerator. My engine an F23, kicks in between as low as 2300 and 3900 if i remember correctly. But with a pod filter, the vtec is extremely audible at around 5 to 6300 rpm.

I remember my f22b with pod filter used to bark above 4500rpm and i used to think that's when vtec engaged but after some research discovered that the vtec on these engines engages at a much lower rpm like SiReal has said.

Others have connected a VTEC light in their SOHC vtec motor and discovered that although it sound like VTEC engages in the hi rpm range, the actual cross over point is at lower rpm to squeeze extra torque from the engines at lower RPM.

my F23 SOHC AUTO, accord.... the vtec engages at EXACTLY 2300 rpm no matter how hard or soft u go with the accelarator... like SIREAL mentioned with a pod filter it is VERY VERY audible at about 4000-4500 almost like an S2K sound...

this information is based on the vtec light i installed vtec has never failed to engage at exactly 2300 rpm!
