    when does VTEC kick in?

    When does the vtec kick in on a VTI eg 95"

    just got car..


    and any tips on mods. preferred Buddy Club Parts.

    make sure the vtec is set to 18psi of boost first
    and it will 'kick in'

    PSI?? i didnt know vtecs have PSI..

    i thought PSI is for turbo cars.

    nar these guys are being dicks...i'm not too sure myself but since its a SOHC VTEC, it wouldnt have a clear kick in like DOHC VTECs. My fat F23 Kicks in depending on manifold pressure. anywhere from 2300 to 3900. Red line being 6800 ish. same could applie to your engine ?

    Dont use too much psi, your VTEC might fall off

    It kicks in at around 5000rpm I think, not sure of the exact rpm. You can tell when it kicks in, the engine sounds different and becomes more powerful. But its only an SOHC VTEC so its not going to be a huge performance difference.

    Its a D16Y4 yeah? The engine code is stamped on the engine at the front near the gearbox.

    what type of things do i need to enhance the performance of my car.. im planning to buy k20 later.. but at the moment i wana enhance da performance of my car now.
    what do i need?

    Intake Headers and Exhaust are a start (I/H/E).

    Since you just got the car, u should replace all the filters and oils/fluids.
    Replace the Air Filter with a K&N panel replacement (~100) for a small performance increase.

    How much do u wanna spend?

    lol u sound dumber then ur trying to make the other guy sound...
    d16y4 is sohc 1.6L non vtec from like ek CXis and GLis
