Can I use Fully syntheitc gear oil? EM1

    Hi Guys,

    Sorry for the double post.

I just bought a car 2 days ago.

The guy said he serviced lol (what a load of shit)

I checked the oil yesterday and it barely had any. So ill be carrying out a service of things i can do at home.

I went to autobarn to get the fluids and fliters and what not, my personal choice if penrite for b series. Anyways long story short. Just as the heading says

Can i use Penrite PRO Gear Full Syn 75w-90

According to my service booklet that just i read it says mt94 or something.
Them letters aren't mentioned on this bottle.

Penrite website reccomends the TransOil version of this oil.
    Which is Semi Syn.

Is it safe for me to use this on my em1?

    Regards,
    Amant

Use a gl4 liquid. Gl5 liquids contains sulphur that eat yellow metals e.g synchros and are only suited if indicated in the manual. Im using Castrol syntrans or syntrax i forgot but it is Gl4 class and fully synthetic. Fully syn is better than semi syn

....genuine fluid.... i know its been said a million times but it is the best value for money fluid.. it costs like 30 dollers. the only time i would second think that is if you where using an aftermarket LSD even then id prolly go genuine and add friction mods

see a lot of honda tech threads saying to just use engine oil.

whats up with that, i tried it out just recently 5w30, so i did engine and tranny. runs fine...
think honda gearbox's use thinner fluid than most other manufacturer gearbox's

hasnt the Honda MTF fluid changed over the years?

    even if it hasnt

API viscosity ratings for gear oils are not directly comparable with those for motor oil, and they are thinner than the figures suggest. For example, many modern gearboxes use a 75W90 gear oil, which is actually of equivalent viscosity to a 10W40 motor oil. - according to wiki

    according to wiki....
the fact of the matter is that gear oil additives are diffrent to engine oil aditives. i personaly wouldnt risk my gearbox to save 30 dollers

I run both the Trans Gear 75W80 & Pro Gear 75W85 in my own cars and customers cars. I cannot fault either of them at all.

The only benefit of going to the 75W85 is that as you drive harder, with it being slightly thicker, the old b series boxes dont crunch at higher rpm in 2nd, 3rd & 4th.

Dont run the 75W90 as it is a touch on the thick side

honda fluid buck for buck is great. apparantly you can add some of that syncromesh oil too, if u can find it.
to cut out some of the grinds, a temporary bandaid.
