Shift Lock

Hey guys,
Just wondering what the shift lock function is? I think my 98 Legend is missing it and I want to know whether its worth while trying to find the part for it to make it work. I think its missing it because theres a hole where the shift lock is....

can you move the gear selector without the key in the ignition? If not then you have a shift lock!

The hole is to manually overide it by pushing it down with the key through the hole
