Nice comprehensive info. I'm eagerly awaiting Volume IV.
I'm planing on painting rims using metal flake in clear 2 pack from a spray gun. I haven't done it before but the advice I was given by a painter was to sand the rims (new condition) with 600-800 grit to make the surface a bit rough. Then I should add about 1/2 teaspoon of flake into a pot of the 2 pack and then shake the gun between every spray. He said to spray 3 coats, allowing it to flash between each coat. Then I should apply a coat of clear only, then sand with 1000. Then apply a final coat of clear and sand again with 1000 grit. The need to sand the final clear coats is to remove the bumps that may be present from the metal flakes sticking up in the paint. Do you agree with this advice Claymore? Also how long should I wait between the 3rd coloured layer and 1st clear layer i.e. can it dry completely or do I need to apply it during the flash.

Thanks for the reply and the tip about the ball bearings. The rims have a factory gloss black finish so I just wanted to mix the flake in clear 2 pack and apply the 3 coats right on top of of the black...so the flake shows up against the black background.
