DIY Brake booster removal (and replacement)

Aim:
In the event of requiring a dodgy brake booster, you have options of getting the original one reconditioned or replacing it with a new or a pre-loved one. A dodgy booster may be characterised by a hissing noise suggesting the rubber seal is damaged. You may even experience a loss of braking power. This article is based on a EG8 civic sedan.

Steps:

This black UFO is no longer Unidentified...it's the brake booster with the brake master cylinder removed from it (removal is via undoing the 2 screws either side of the central piston and pulling away.


On the inside of the firewall are four bolts of the booster that are protruding. Remove the nuts A&B (2 more are on the other side of steering column). Use screwdriver C to push away clip D so you can hammer out the pin which holds the booster to the brake pedal E


Pull the booster off the firewall. As you can see stupid shock tower B is preventing removal so I had to use spanners to remove the connecter A which holds the pin that I previously hammered out. I also had to loosen the clutch cylinder C to allow sideways movement and eventual removal of the booster.

The replacement part is the reverse of this process. So give it a go yourself. I am not a mechanic so don't sue me...follow these instructions at your own risk.

im just wondering serious question.

I understand there is brake booster delete kits available out there.
But its still has resivour in the engine bay itself.

In search of a clean shaved bay.
Happy to go with custom fabricators if need be.

What do u think of..

Underdash booster/reservoirs aren't anything new. You can buy off the shelf kits but they are all designed for older cars. Mustang's/falcons etc.

What kind of car is that in?

Realli...! i didnt realli think the whole underdash had been around.

So far whats available is brake booster elimators kits which look like this.


But then again thats another object in the engine bay.
Which i was hoping can be completely removed.

well if you delete the booster and still want to keep a decent pedal feel, its good to upgrade to a bigger diam M/C

Hmm fair call. Well in that guys thread he talks about the time needed to Fab it up, get it right etc. To pay some one you'd be looking at a few thousand bucks. Plus he said it doesn't fit under the standard dash.
