when you install an oil cooler like i did my self you loose pressure and in my case i lost about 10 PSI, i have a large cooler and filter relocation
this drop of pressure caused my vtec to occasionly drop out between 7-9k RPM
once i increased my pressure my vtec went back to normal and the car no longer has vtec problems
Now how to increase the pressure
firstly you must remove the exhaust to access and remove the sump
drain the oil firstly if the oil is still good you can reuse it just use a clean bucket to drain it into
the oil pump sits inside there
once you have the sump off you will need to remove the allen bolt seen below
i thinks its a 10mm if i remember right
it will have tention behind it because its spring loaded so be carfull it doesnt fly away when it comes out also when replacing it you will need a bit of force to push it in when you tighten it back up
once removed it should look like this
now you wish to use a few washers and shimmy it up to create more pressure on the spring just a small amount of of washers can create extra pressure needed in the sping
dont go overboard with the washers i allready had 1 and added another 2 i would not go over 4 washers too much pressure and you will start more problems
different cars will require more or less washer to create more pressure if its just a slight increase wanted just add one or two if you do have pressure problems add 3
warn pumps will also loose pressure and require more washers
my pump is brand new so dosnt require this
you want to place the washers inside the piston
now reassemble it all and test for leaks
do a good clean job, you cant test it untill its all back together and exhaust back on
so its recomended that you get a new sump gasket as they normally will break on removal and you will require a gasket sealer as well
this is a quick write up by request so sorry for the lack of descrition
