Question for anyone whos removed a D/B series engine.

    Hey,

How the hell did you get the pin out of the shift rod or whatever its called!!

I was hitting the shit out of it with a punch and hammer.

I dont think it would be possible to drill it, these pins are made from strong steel...

    Any ideas?

has to be punched out... it's a bit of a pain in the ass

the bolt that holds the spare tire in happens to be the perfect size to punch it out, however... so grab that, and use it and a mallet to punch out the retaining pin

why spend the money when you have something perfectly capable of doing the exact same thing already in the car? You're not going to damage it and the screw for the spare tire is shaped just like a punch you're going to go buy.

    i got a punch set.
i got one stuck in there after trying to punch it out (8mm is the proper size to do it).

I had a bright idea to put a smaller one up there and smash it real hard as by doing so it gave me more clearance to hit it with the hammer, and with it stuck i could hit it harder without holding the punch. I thought it would push it through but its not and now this punch is stuck
Stupid idea.. i only have like 30cm of space to hammer at it from the ground to the end of the punch..

Seeing as this punch is stuck pretty firmly, i think im just gonna have to hit it real hard which cant be done, or remove the engine with this rod still connected and work on removing it when its not underneath the car.

What a stupid thing to do!! lol.. i was just getting so frustrated with it at the time and didnt care and just wanted to get it out however i possibly could.

    Still stuck in there

Old screwdrivers seem to do the trick for me... hammer one end, apply WD40 beforehand to help it budge.
