    Droning sound from engine or transmission??

    Hello Guys

    I have noticed a droning sound from the car when travelling at speeds just over or near the next gear change. This usually when the revs are between 1500 and 2000 when crusing or on cc. Whats is this and is it normal?

    Its funny how you dont hear these things in the first three weeks. Perhaps your ears are settling down and in tune with the car after all the excitment has diminished. Overall I wouldnt change the choice of car though.

    Probably because the engine is just on the verge of lugging since 1500-2000rpm is low if you want to accelerate. I use 2000rpm only for cruising.

    All stock euro's have a resonating sound/vibration at around 2000-2500rpm

    your changing just after 1500-2000 rpm? no wonder the engine sounds droney, its probably struggling... for moderate driving your probably best shifting at 3500 or so, its a 4 cyl afterall

    Thanks for that guys. It makes sense about changing gears at low revs. When I floor it (my equivalent!! 3000 to 3500 rpm) this sound goes away.

    Shouldnt drive it like a granny hey

    You can shift at 3000rpm and not increase fuel consumption by much if you use less throttle. I found that if I used full throttle but shifted earlier at 2500rpm, it used more petrol than using 1/4 throttle and shifting at 4000rpm.

    If you are new to manual the owners manual has recommended shift points for this vehicle. Worth reading

    I've been getting this sound on my 05 Auto. It sounds like it's struggling. Hard to explain but it sounds like...when you blow air through a straw into water..lol Sounds bubbly...sounds like a diesel engines sometimes. Only when it's getting up to 2500rpm. Then it goes away. Only started noticing it a few weeks ago, car runs perfectly well. But this sound is very annoying.

    This is normal right?

    holey old thread batman! :P

    Sounds like something else is wrong, perhaps it needs new spark plugs, or the air filter needs cleaning, Below 2000rpm it should sound ok. At 2500rpm, it should sound "resonatey" not bubbly.

    sorry, meant it stops sounding bad at 2000rpm, it goes away from then on when moving up through the gears.

    I definitely notice a change in sound at anything above 2300 RPM. Under that it does sound different.
