Civic motor life expectancy
Hi everyone,
I've got a 91year model, 1.5lt, twincarb, Civic. The car is well serviced and gets regular oil changes and is almost never thrashed.
What kind of mileage can I expect of a well cared for Civic motor?
Is there anything to watch out for?
Car's done 175 000km and the motor feels great.
Thanks

same.
respect it, treat it well, keep it well maintained, it should last you another 170k.
it's just like a woman. costs money, and have to keep it happy to make it stay with you. lol.

600 000km that sounds amazing! I heard that they are strong, but didn't expect them to be this strong!

Any suggestions on the best engine oil for the civics?

A friends engine lasted around 600,000km before reconditioning/replacing it.
Two important things to ensure good engine life is, 1. always warm up the engine especially on cold mornings. 2. Frequent oil changes and use quality oil+fuel.
My Civics done 250000+ and its still running well, no smoke or anything..

couple of things that haven't been said but I think are very important:
1: timing belt changes every 100000kms
2: Water pump changes every 100000kms
3: Oil Pump changes - not sure about the replacement frequency but maybe 200K anyway
4: 10000km coolant changes
those 4 things apart from oil changes and fuel filter changes will ensure your car is running tip top.
My EW5 when pulled apart showed almost no use on the piston bores, cyl head was perfect as well. When I took it for a shave the guy asked how many kms the cars done (240000) - he said its impossible, it looks like new! only reason I did a rebuild was because the oil pump failed at 240000kms.

We have had exactly that model in the family (my sister has it now) - auto. It is a very well built car and has about 250,000kms on the odo. No major engine work has been done at all - just regular servicing since new and it never misses a beat. No smoke and still pulls very nicely even for an auto. If that car does not make 300k+ I will be very surprised.

I had the exact same model too, had 318,000ks when i got rid of it, and i still see it round now
