    Hmmm... well if u all leave the money to him, well just make sure u get his driver license and rego, we'll prohibit interstate buys, and make everyone sign a simple contract...

    Well, i don't think group buys are that hard. I mean, if you don't know the person organising it, or think something is suss, just don't take part. It really isn't that hard.

    Also, when taking part in a group buy, you should generally get enough details of the organiser to be comfortable they won't do a runner. Things like full name, contact number and maybe some other form of ID (like a bank account number). That way when you do a deposit you can verify the account holder with the bank against the name given to you. I don't think you have to go to the extreme of getting a license number. Also, when you get their mobile, call it with them next to you to confirm it is valid!

    Other than that, usually it is a known forumer so it's all good.

    The 2 most important things to remember:
    1. You enter a group buy at your own risk (that's how it has always been)
    2. If you don't like the sound of it, or the smell of it, or the look of it, DON'T PARTICIPATE! Simple.
