where did you get it done and was it just a standard rebuild or did you strengthen the box?

^^As above and who did it please.
"rebuilt" would equal only replace a bearing or two , including labour for that price of $600. A full rebuild = replacement of all synchros etc which would be more than 1500-2k easily
