When is B18C the right choice over B16A?
I have a del sol, with a low klms B16A2 in it. I am just interested to know at what kind of power level the B16A no longer becomes worthwhile? Obviously a B18C swap is worth a few grand, but at some power level the extra capicity should come into play? Basically I want to know how far you can go with a boosted B16A before the B18C (boosted) becomes the more economical option

well, blkcrx is making more than 300kw out of his b16a2...
if you are going to boost the car i think it matters less than if you are planning to go NA. Also if you are going to get a b18c you may as well get a b18c5-7 (type-r variant) as the earlier ones don't really offer a significant power increase. last time i checked a b18c5 didn't go for under 6k ? probably more ???

u can run plenty of power on either block. for a D->b swap u could give u a figure, but for a b-?b swap, its hard to say.
i think, unless its broke, its not worth swapping.. if u throw a rod or something through ur bottom end, LS/Vtec is a good option as u will gain torque

Yeah thats what i was thinking. If you were going from a D then the B18 would be a definite. But when you alredy have a B16A it makes the B18 a little less worthwhile.
I don't think the LS/Vtec is a good idea, because I definlitey want the oil squirters for a boosted motor. B18C5 I don't really see the point? Wouldn't the plain old B18C motor be just as good in a boosted setup?
As for BLKCRX, I'm kinda wondering how much easier would it have been to get to 300kW with the extra 200cc capicity of a B18C? Or dosen't it make much diffrence?

There's more to it than capacity alone...
In your case, the B16A has all the advantages...
That being rpm potential, rod ratio, piston speed & it is already in the car thus offering a substantial financial advantage + turbocharging the existing engine in the car sits better with engineers...

to go from a b16 to a b18, its not worth it, like toda said. youll definately be able to feel the difference but you wont be happy when you consider the cost to power ratio. best bang for you buck is to boost the b16. TODA AU sells Trust turbo kits for the b16

Its a pretty long list currently utilising a VF29 turbo (WRX STi), Crower rods, JE forgies among others...still being restricted at this stage with tuning issues whereby I might need to change the ECU...thinking about Hondata...

mate i honestly think that the money you spend doing a teg type R conversion, you could make a b16a go shit loads faster. With the money you could get overbored dished low compressionpistons which would bring the capicity up to 1800cc neway and conbined with a decompression gasket you could get your compression down to 8:1 or 7:1 as apposed to 10:1. with the compression and some bigger injectors you could easyily get a good turbo setup and run around 15lbs. That would Smoke a B18C5/6
