    Question dirty petrol

hey guys i was just wondering if u could help me. . . .

everytime i start to run low on petrol, my car has trouble starting.

im pretty sure that i should replace my fuel filter but besides that i heard that you can put metholated spirits on ur tank and it would clean it up in no time.

    is this true? . . . if so, explain. . .

    thanks

if its low on petrol it wont start as good as a car with a decent amount in. Low fuel pressure...you will have to prime the car a few times (turn the key halfway for the ECU light to show) until you hear the "DUNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN" noise of fuel pressure working up
Get it started , then get some fuel in there. And dont run it on empty so often

fuel filter is like 20bucks give or take
give your car a few runs of 98 to clean things up

yes i have herd the metho story as well and am told that if you have water in your tank then by putting a few cap fulls of metho in there it will sink to the bottom of your tank with the water to in a way make it flamable. (both water and metho are heavyier than petrol). i have never tried this so i cannot gaurantee that it will work.

    Pain striper works best

Dirty fuel filter might be one problem, might as well change it. Not like they are expensive

Secondly you might have like a build up of sludge near the bottom of the tank which could be causing this

Or you could just put more fuel into your car?

Well my old man is a retired motor mechanic and when I was having fuel problems with my Mazda 626 (when on low fuel) he told me to put a bottle of meth spirits in the tank and then fill with fuel. Apparently it absorbs the water and then burns. The problem didn't come back so it is not a stupid idea. NOTE: this was a carby run motor so I can't comment on whether this is a good idea for EFI.

Methylated spirits is 90% ethanol and 10 % methanol. Mixing 1/2 a litre of it into your 45L of petrol is just like going to the united petrol station and filling up with their E10 petrol.

In your engine bay, on just next to the firewall. Just follow the fuel line back from the injectors.
