hm.. u dont have to touch highbeam it'll be useless as they have to power up to the right temp.. just get low beams (power up as in they need to get warmed up just for 1 use of high beam..

There's a good reason why factory lights are in a certain kelvin range, they provide the best visibility at night time.
Go beyond that range it's just becomes a wank factor, not to mention hazardous to your own saftey as well as other drivers. (eg when it's raining etc etc)

And the reason why you hear stories of headlights melting is more due to the fact they are made with such poor quality, considering HID's consume less power than halogens, I can't see them being any hotter when working.

Go educate yourself here, 10,000k highbeams is just silly IMO.

Wow thats a really good read! however can i get some first hand advice or experience on HIDS in projectors, what to get and if ishould expect any problems, if so what?

  7. #19
That website tells you all the information you need to know and what to expect if you used reflectors or projectors.

Bottom line, buying headlights with reflectors/projectors that's not made for HID's will cause glare, retrofitting proper projectors into existing housing is a much better alternative.
There's really nothing else to be said, except maybe headlights for LHD vehicles are not for use in RHD countries.

But be warned, you get what you paid for, buy crap, get crap in regards aftermarket headlights.

I just thought I would use this thread because it is pretty stupid making so many threads about a similar issue. =\

Now what i have noticed with HID kids they are sold as a pair of 2. Could i purchase 2 hid kids in different strengths (eg 6k for low beam and 10k for high beam) and use the them that way? one kit for low beam and one kit for high beam as with the angle eyes they have a lense for each lamp (high and low)

Does that make sense at all?

Ps Dont hijack my thred, if you have questions about your situation start up a new thred

pps how do i tell what lamp i have? so i can get the right replacement?

are spearlight and asic good brands?

  12. #24
There are litterally zillions of HID kits on the market made from ALL over the world.

big brands such as japanese companies are raybrig, piaa, Bellof, BJ UNION, 88house are definately leading companies in producing quality products but they dont come cheap at all...ITS BEEN SAID, U PAY FOR WAT U GET.

These expensive hid kits usually come with ignitors seperate from the ballast, these allow the system to run more reliable and well safer and last longer.

Not saying other brands are not good or run well, but japanese kits are in my opinion much better in quality in the wire harnesses, ignitors, burners and ballast systems

Also when buying HID kits, best advise i can give is to buy from a shop who also installs so they can cover warranty, there are far to many hid kits sold with "backed by 1 year warranty" and when they fail, and customers TRY to claim damage, the warranty does not go through with excuses of "oh u didnt fit with us" or the purchaser tried to install them themselves and farked something up good and proper, so best to pay extra money, get the shop who sold them to u fit them to cover all warranty, u get peace of mind!

HID burners are suppose to run cooler than normal halogen bulbs as the heat is dissapaited in the ballast themselves. I have seen angel eyes say no HIDs, but ives seen many angel eyes with projector lens fitted with HID kit but dont take my word for it.
