Not sure if I covered it in the PDF, but I ended up using a long bit of sticky tape to get a hold of it and move it into place, then once it was there, I pushed in a bit so it stayed there and tore the sticky tape off.

I assume by now you've gotten it back in already. How did you end up doing it?

So it turns out there was something wrong with the instructions causing the bad sound quality. I finally decided to properly mount the socket into my car and discovered that one of the pins described in the instructions was wrong. I have updated the guide to fix this.

(The bad sound quality was caused by a grounding issue because the ground wire was not connected to the right pin in the connector - should be AUXSG in the diagram, not AUXSH.)

The easiest option is to find a CDROM audio cable as shown in the instructions. They're a bit harder to find nowadays because they aren't used anymore I don't think. I'd try eBay or computer parts stores like CPL or MSY.

Here's an eBay listing that should work, but they're a bit expensive in my book - http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/24-Digita...-/290693121141

Here's a Google search that might have a few more leads - http://www.google.com.au/search?q=cd...n&cr=countryAU

    Hope that helps.

    Hello Sam
Thank you very much for the detailed instructions, worked perfectly.
    Greatly appreciated.

In the course of my installation, or more to the point, in the course of re-fitting everything, i found an effective way to deal with the plastic air tube you mentioned.
Disconnect this tube from under dash
I have included a couple of pics here.
I hope this helps anyone else attempting the same.
