what to buy? :Accord vs. Maxima (03+) vs. civic vs?????

    Hey guys,

Its been a long time coming for me to get an upgrade.

    Finally sold me beloved EK1.

with about 20k to play with, its a hard choice in the used car market.

Tossing up between a small car vs. family car...hmm

The jazz looks rather appealing, however it does seem a tad bit small it i were try and fit full sized adults in there...

But nevertheless, its a very viable option..

The accord is ever so reliable, but it does seem to be a little dated?...nonetheless, a very smooth ride

The Maxima, well...enough said i suppose, it has just about everything..lol

The civics, not sure i want another one, but still appealing..

    what are your thoughts guys?

Anyone had any experience with the Maxima's? Are there other models ive overlooked?

Either way, a nice small car of family car is the go, even though im slightly more for the familar car, would like something larger with more poke and torque.

any help , feed back, suggestions would be much appreciated.

Between the 2000 Accord and 2000 Maxima, I'd go for the maxima. V6 goodness. But I don't like the ultra light steering.

    Didn't the 2000 Accord come in a V6 Variant?

However, the VQ35DE used in the Maxima (350z and various other models) is a marvel.

    EDIT.

What is the Jazz like to drive with full load? (struggles?...)

The VQ35DE in the Maxima is different to the one in the 350Z. 255hp vs 287hp. The 2000 Accords and Maximas are about $10k. Good price.

But the 2004 3.5L Maxima has a redbook private sale value of $20300! http://www.redbookasiapacific.com/au...p?key=NISS04CB

Much cheaper than the 2003 3.0 Accord's private sale price of $27000. http://www.redbookasiapacific.com/au...p?key=HOND03EU

Go for the Maxima for sure.

I should have noted that i knew the vq35de variant used in the maxima is detuned.

The only thing that startles me is the resale value, i mean..

i spotted a 2004 model ST-L for 16.5k, 35,000 km's i think...and it begs to ask...what the hell has happened to its resale value? 3 years (coming 4yrs) old, and almost looses 1/2 its value?..

as you noted with the accord, private resale of up to 27k. jeez...so 2-3yrs down the track, the maxima is going to be worth next 10k?.....

costs of owning an accord? vs. maxima? (fuel consumption compared to that of a civic?....i mean..my ek1 had massive dramas....MAX 300kms from a tank ...and thats driving like a granny...so yes...lol)

it'd be nice to hear from people who have driven one...

    startling....

honestly..im only really looking at 03+ Maximas..

and 00-01 accords (in terms of large family cars)

    as for small cars..

what is there great? (as mentioned in first post...Jazz, Civic..corolla)

rather interested in the jazz vti-s though...any thoughts?

I have seen some Euros on the market for under 20k - about 100,000kms but it is still worth it.

Are you getting a manual or auto?

With regards to the Jazz, it'll feel about the same as your EK1.

does the price and km's seem right to you? it does seem to be priced rather low..compared to the same car and year..

Yeah, it's slightly lower than the Redbook price.

    Prices based on km 45,000 - 75,000
    Trade in price guide* $13,800 - $15,500
    National average price - private sale* $17,100 - $20,300
    Price when new (RRP) $39,990
all prices quoted are GST inclusive

Remember, you have to factor in stamp duty when you transfer the rego to yourself.
