Charges (Customs?) for shipping wheels from UK

    Hello Everyone,

I have done a search which showed me a thread for shipping and customs charges however i was not able to get into the thread for some reason.

My question is I would like to purchase some wheels from the UK and the supplier kindly advised me to check for any duty charges to get the wheels into Australia does anyone know if i will be charges any duty charges to get the wheels into Australia?

Are there any other charges that i should know of? I know i need to check with my bank to see how much they will charge for tranfering of money to the UK.

Any help with information would be great.

    Thanks.

That's generous of them. Last time I imported a $700 lens (5 years ago), they still wanted 10% GST from me.

Yeah the threshold was lower back then (around $4-500?). It was increased to $1000 about 2 years ago.

$1000 or under, you just pay gst if requested by customs. Unless you claim you sent it there and it was being returned.

Dumbest suggestion yet. False or misleading statements for the purposes of satisfying Customs is an offence, not to mention that if you undervalue the item and it gets lost in transit, if you have insurance you're only going to get back the lesser amount.

Look at it this way. Is it the VALUE of the item, or the price YOU paid?

the price the original owner of my mates VL paid for an autometer boost gauge was $140. This i sent back to get repairs to the US.

The true VALUE for the item, according to autometer, remebering that even the $140 price is WAY under the tax threshold, is US$12

    hehe i love it, i do this shit for a job. these are the facts;
    1. anything under FOB value of AUD$1000 is duty AND gst free (SAC), if you need to pay duty the duty will be 10% for PMV wheels
    2. dont try to under declare a value to customs (or at least not by some ridiculous amount) they have people who specialise in all fields and can evaluate any import at their descretion. IF they dont agree with your "value" then they can use their own values, and it is a false statement to Customs

so duty, if payable is 10% of FOB value (free on board)
    GST is calculated by (FOB+duty+freight+insurance)X10%
    any further questions?

The person i spoke to also said that it is $1000 excluding shipping, so it is based only on the price on the item not including shipping. Is this true?
