i my self dont own a EK4, but as with used cars there is always gonna some "problems" with them. just check it over e.g: oil, date timing belt was changed, rust and many more. i just noticed that u said that you wanna buy a EK4 yet you say "Car: Soon to be an EG"?. or if you dont really know what to look out for, get an inspection done by mechanic. cant really say there is this and that wrong with Ek's, its to of a general question man. maybe some EK owners might be able to help you more, but i hope i gave you a general idea

we've got an ek4 we've had for 6 years...and had no problems with it...

a few of the chips in the paint from rocks are getting a little bit of rust...but that's because the top layer is gone..

there really isn't any common problems I can tell you about as we haven't really had any problems with ours....

shocks are starting to go..but the car has 268,000kms on it lol....
    blah blah blah

yeah ek4s are great. Just check to see if the engine is in good condition and if there are any signs of major crashes.

These cars are really reliable and generally do not have many problems.

passenger side power window switch is a so called common fault. they sometimes go slower than usual or only go one way.

    ^^ Yeah i got that.
Nothing to worry about, some new gaskets for the tail lights and its all sealed up

Check for rust in the spare tyre well, mine had some very slight surface rust from the hatch leak.
Other than that, the cars been absolutly flawless, not one issue

Also the rubber window seal above the side mirrors always gets jammed and pulls out from the window going up and down.
