Changing Oil Filter - how often?

I had my car serviced today and they replaced both oil and oil filter. now im aware that oil can be (and should be IMHO) changed every 5000kms, but i was surprised that my next scheduled service doesnt include the oil filter being changed (so the next "scheduled" change of the oil filter is in 20000kms time - i.e every 2nd scheduled service)

shouldnt the oil filter be changed at a minimum of 10000kms, and at 5000kms if you wish so??

Yeh, in most cases the oil filter is changed every 5-10k.
First time ive heard a mechanic schedule it 20k later...

yeh for newer cars nowdays services are needed less often, and the new oil filters nowdays will do the job fine for 20000ks. it really depends on how you drive your car and how hard you thrash it. AND also how much you wanna look after your car.
i change my filter everytime i give it some new oil every 5000ks, hopefully in the long run it'll pay off

If you value your car and don't mind spending less than $10 for a new oil filter, i suggest you change it every oil change or 5k/10k.

most service books will have the oil filter listed every 20k for newer models, however most people would just do it every 10k with the oil change

yeah the service schedule for honda's is every 10,000km or 6 months (whichever occurs first).
however on on type r's, s2k's and prelude vti-r's it's probably better to do every 5000km as they use a bit more oil.

obviously if you drive 'spiritedly' very often or take it to the track it may be wise to do it even more regularly pending on circumstances
