Red face Question About the Paint Protection for new car

    Hi all Civic owners,

I am going to get my civic for the next few weeks, I am just wondering about the paint protection service from dealer, should buy the service.

because i will park my car mostly outdoor, I just a bit afraid about the bird shit stuffs.

can I get the paint protection after market, which one do you guys suggest?

How much is it around, do you have any good paint protection store suggest for me in sydney?

    Thanks

if you park your vehicle outdoors mainly, then i would suggest you DO get paint protection, and going with the honda one isn't a bad idea (as the warranty on the paint will still apply, i am not sure how honda will handle paint related warranty jobs should another paint protectant be applied over it)...there are other services that case the vehicle in glass and will result in a very schmick looking vehicle, but i am not sure on how much they cost sorry.

I think i gotta do the paint protection, I guess the honda service is around 500 something.

But i saw the ads which is the paint protection DIY kit.

has anyone used it before? is it effective?

forget paint protection... just wax your car every few months with a decent synthetic wax... you'll be fine. And make sure to wipe off bird poo (esp bat poo) asap. Or get a car cover lol.

Or atleast do it aftermarket for a fraction of the price of the dealers.

Some DIY product paint protection kit is aroudn 160.

And I watched some clips, even water the car, the water just ran straight away. And wouldn't stick it on the car.

Do you think normal Wax have the same effect as well?

What I am figuring is using Wax, or Paint protection DIY kit?

I am lack of experience about car stuffs, hope to see someone suggestion!!

basically it comes down to effort. if you love your car and love washing your car (which i do ^_^) i suggest waxing it. it will do just as good a job as paint protection, but the car needs to be re-waxed ideally once every month/6 weeks whereas paint protection is a one-time application. if you can't be bothered waxing the car, then go for paint protection. waxing a car is a long task, and requires a lot of effort to be done properly, but the benefit is that you get to spend time with your car, you get a great sense of satisfaction when it is finished, and your arm gets stronger :P

I've read some synthetic waxes they can last up to 6 months. I've heard that some dealers use these as paint protection. I'm unsure if its true. But as a rule of thumb don't pay the dealers price. Get a quote from a place that will do this service for you such as car tinting and detailer businesses. Normal waxes need to be reaplied every month or two.

i've never heard of this happening. i'm not saying it doesnt happen but i know for a fact that most dealers use specialist paint protection (usually made by specialist auto companies such as Wynns etc )

i highly recommend gettin the paint protection, we didn't get it for our 07 black vti and paint has already come off the car!!!! honda refused to have the car repaired at their cost and i told them i'll be contacting aca and today tonite about it as we're a young couple buying our first new family car and this is what happens.... so they said they will pay to fix it as a good gesture, but not coz they have to...

Does anybody actually know what this paint protection thing it? I'm told it's a glaze, to me that sounds like a very hard coating applied ove rthe car, I would have assumed it would have been done at Honda.

It's dealer-done (i.e. in their workshop) so that means it can be done by pretty much anyone.

Some hand car wash places will charge you approx $280ish for a similar service- whether or not its the same as the Honda dealer; only someone who actually works at Honda will know.
