Hey guys, thinking about fitting a AVIC HD3 into a DC5 R. Living in sydney, where is it usually the best place to look for a system like this? also where is a good respectable workshop to install headunit like this? thanks

Try looking on the pioneer website for the dealers that can fit them with the extra warranty.

you could get it at JB-Hi or one of those authorised Pioneer resellers.

If you have time, I would think putting it in yourself will save you a lot of money.

Some places charge $400-$500!!...just to install...

I wouldn't get JB to install it as there not trained installers and cant offer the extanded warranty from pioneer.
If you could make it to canberra we do the install's for $180-$220 for the HD3 and then you get the full 5 years warranty. (BDL CAR STEREO)

JB install it for $150. They also give you lifetime warranty on the install.

DONT get it done at jb, get it done at a specialist store, and the rerason it cost so much more to install is because there's alot more involved to get it in and running properly as opposed to a normal dvd/cd unit, that said, the avic's are heaps of crap and if you just want sat nav look at a tomtom unit or a garmin, avics take so long to do everything due to all the software on them, it takes nearly 45 seconds just to boot up and start running when you hop in the car, if you ever think about runnign an i-pod off it be prepared for the longest loading times in the world, i wouldnt even call it a 1/4 speed connection, its so slow.... so yeh, personally i wouldnt touch one with a ten foot pole haha

ps- these arn't blind comments, i use and install these on a very regular basis, and i hate them :P

I agree with euro-tr4sh's comment and thanks for the heads up as I was almost going to get the hd3...but ended up getting a cheaper one from ebay.
Now I know how it all hooks up and know it takes a while to load up as euro-tr4sh said. software on these things aren't all that great as yet I find...

Anyhow, good luck with finding and installing the hd3.

I would be interested however on what other things are required to hook this up...

im pretty sure eclipse have an all in one unit, not sure what its like though...
nightryder- its not all that different to a pioneer 6850 (he double din, in dash 6stacker one) the main trouble is the speed pulse sence wire on it, you need to find a factory one to tap into which can be quite a pain to find if you dont have the right contacts or a folder full of cable locations sheets for every car manufactured in the last 10 yrs... which we have at work thank god :P

Both the AVIC HD3 & the AVN6000 are great unit personal i would gor for teh AVN is there are about $1000 cheaper and a lot more operator friendly, the avic is goog if you like computers, but the AVN will come with 3 years warranty when installed by a ECLIPSE dealer.
