Motor Oil Change hot or cold?

    Hey Guys

Anyone got any insight on this?

I've always changed my own oil and I do my own service's but never cared if my car was hot or cold but now that I'm boosted I need to change my oil more often maybe this might made a difference in the long term...

    Thanks Guys

cold unless you wana get burned or sweaty, usually in the morning for when its all down in the sump otherwise you end up waiting for an hour or so for the oil to drain out

Do it when it's hot, usually after a good drive.

When the oil is hot it is thinner and drains better

It drains better when warm, but more of the old oil will be in the head and galleries. Doing it after a drive means you leave a larger portion of the old oil in your engine . So best is to let the car sit for a while to let all the oil flow back down into the sump first. Then drain.

That doesn't make sense to me at all. hot oil will run down all oil galleries pretty damn quickly..

Always try to get the car to normal operating temprature, after a good drive or after the cooling fans have cut in twice.when its hot the oil runs out quicker and more will come out then cold.cold oil thick and lumpy, hot oil is thin and runny.also if you have a air brake sucker you can also suck inside the sump to get to the rest of the oil.

From what's I've seen by monitoring the dip stick level, it takes many minutes, at least for the K series. Maybe the D and B series have larger galleries.

That works as well. I'd prefer to drain my oil safe than get scalded by hot oil. To counter the effects of cold oil, I let it drain for longer. Usually have a cold one while letting it drip into the tray.

Cold thick and lumpy if you are changing oil in winter and it is below 10 C. At normal 25 C weather, the oil is not lumpy (but still slightly thicker than a 100 C hot oil).
