    #### Dseries Questios #### Win A Rep Point Yo! ####

    pGday guys.
    Setup at the moment is D16y1 Block + D16y8 Head

    Basically i need to know weather these parts need to be
    specific to the Engine model... or if they are generic throughout
    the D16 EFI SOHC Family

    * Timing Belt
    * Water Pump
    * Oil Sump
    * Alternator
    * Dizzy

    Also DO anyone know how to tell apart a y8/y1 head? are the any
    physical differences to distinguish them?

    Intake manifold on the y1 head is smaller then the y8 head. Rep me!! LOL...

    As for alternator there pretty much the same across the d series. Only the difference will be obd1 or obd2 plugs.

    You'll need a weird combination of head studs, something like 7x y1 bolts and 1x y8 bolt (or the other way round)

    * Oil Sump
    Y4's have a pressed steel sump.

    Aus spec Y5's have a way fancy cast alum. sump with integral cooling fins.

    * Alternator

    Dunno.

    * Dizzy

    spoken about elsewhere.

    I believe there is a casting mark on the head.

    from the rocker cover, most Y8 looks like Y4 (only 'HONDA' on the rocker cover)
    Y1 usually will have 'Honda Vtec' on the rocker cover.

    otherwise, will need to check the stamp of the year of the engine from the head itself

    some parts will be different, such as:

    OBD2 alternator use a squarish plug, where as OBD1 uses round plug.

    oil sump - not all are the same for D series (ex17's sits lower than D16's)

    timing belt I'm sure not all will be the same. as engine sizes and the number of teeth will vary between each D-series (but in saying that, the Y7 and Y8 shares the same timing belt, tensioners and water pump)

    dizzy - wiring will vary between obd1 and 2. I believe internals are mostly the same, just slightly have different housing.
