facelift is usually the newer model/year, and pre-facelift is the older model/year.

usually they will use the same body design, and just change the grille, bumper or headlight fr and rear. usually very minor changes (facelift).

and then they will change the whole body shape, design and engine altogether in the same model (ie. Integra) but different/newer "type" (ie. DC2 change to DC5) after number of years.
