    help: headunit install

hey every-1, just wanted to know whether it is necessary to disconnect the negative terminal of the car battery before commencing a headunit install? If it is, will this have any effect on my car electrics, eg. airbags, alarm etc. I own a 97 EK4 if that helps.

    battery

You should disconnect the negative terminal of your battery.
Just make sure if you have a battery back up siren to turn the siren off.
All other electrics in your car will be fine!

In this day and age most cars are protected enough that you don't really need to disconnect the earth when just doing the headunit.

It is mainly done these days for safety reasons in case you accidently touch the power wire to something.

I didn't unplug mine, just make sure your 12v constant wire is secure when working, I blew a fuse because there was an exposed part of the wire that touched the ground.

There is no reason to discon. the battery mate. Just dont let your 12V+ touch any metal or your ground. Tape is a good way to make sure it doesnt

it takes like 10 seconds to pull it off and be safe....

if ur hand or fingers happen to be around when the positive (live) wire short circuits to ground, ud better hope there is not too big of a spark!

be safe and save urself some fuses.
