    ek/em owners who've upgraded to 16" wheels

    2 questions
when you upgrade from the stock 15" to 16" (ensure wheel circumference remains the same, ensuring the change in wheel weight is minimal, though width would probably go from the 195 to 205)

    i) does it affect acceleration?

ii) does it affect fuel economy?

i know to search...but i want the answers specific to ek/em.

    thanks peeps

    i) nope

    ii) nope

because u keep the same rolling circumference and weight, its not goin to change anything.

NO if the rolling circumference and weight remains the same.

but usually the weight of a 14" wheel is lighter than 15s and 16s

if its the same rims just 1" diff, i doubt there would be any noticable diff. but diff rims is a diff story, when i upgraded from 14" steelies to 15" rota slipstreams you can tell the diff as the rims are alot lighter

use that it'll tell you if speed with be off on your speedo

also if you get lghter rims i think you'll notice a difference while turning?
as someone once told me they put 17"s on their car and didnt like it at all cause it felt too heavy.

general rule is make sure the circumference of the new wheel and tyre is as close to OEM as possible, legaly it can very 12% or so MAX! the lighter the rim the better, less inertial weight for the engine to move = more power to the ground and quicker response when the power is put down.... recommend VOLK rims in 15" or 16" i.e. CE28n.

u prob swap frm 14" heavy stockies to some pretty light aftermarket 18s..

usually if u go from 14" aftermarket to 18" aftermarket wheels.. its like a huge difference in acceleration and going off the line..

not really guys.. its the same as a flywheel, depends on where on the circular object the weight distribution is, ie the spoke a design... a 4.2lb flywheel can be lighter than a 3.9lb....

it's not the weight that actually matters.. its the rolling weight that matters. the closer the additional weight is added to the centre of the hub the less noticable it is... which is why "light weight lugs" are functionless poofter upgrades

swing a baseball bat with your arms, now swing a bucket filled with water to equate to the same weight....

and if his camber is flat, an increase from 195 to 205 will somewhat affect fuel economy due to trackwidth increase resulting in more road grip... but it'd be minimal.. probably only measurable every 2 tanks, etc...
