Apparently you can still use a as1698, but it must have a manufacture date that is less than 12yr old, not the date you brought the helmet.

Brought means to carry or take something to a place.
Examples,
1) i bought the helmet on the 12th of december 2006. (correct)
2) i brought the helmet to the race track. (correct)
3) not the date you brought the helmet (incorrect unless the topic you refer to is inherently known to be an event where the activity of bringing an object is required, purchasing isn't such an activity)
