Ok a long story short, a few weeks ago i had a problem with the tacho not working (EG9 cluster) so replaced icm and it was still playing up. Ended up swapping the ECU backup fuse due to something else and tacho started working again. Noticed this morning that the tacho was playing up again on the way to the shops (reading really low but shoots up past 8000 rpm if i go to roughly 4000 rpm or above). As the car got warmer and warmer the tacho would move further and seem more accurate. By the time the car was completely warm the tacho seemed to be working fine. I always give the car 5 minutes or more to warm up before i go anywhere too. Has anyone heard of this happening before?
