^ too true, what's your budget?

SQ wise, you'd do a lot better with one quality sub than 2 poorer quality subs
SPL wise... probably not what you're after?

Either way, don't be a dick and think you're the greatest cranking your music at the lights !!!

Ideally I wouldn't want to spend more than $300 for a subwoofer + box. I don't mind second hand. I'm more than happy with the sound/bass produced from my stock 6"/6x9" speakers. As long as there is no distortion I am happy. But considering I have access to the above mentioned amp...I thought it might be fun to get a subwoofer. I mainly listen to rnb/house/contemporary.

It seems that I am after SQ.

Thanks for the input guys, much appreciated!

You can get a perfectly fine Alpine Type R + Box for $300. Regardless of the coil config (dual 4 ohm or dual 2 ohm), since the Type R is rated at 500wrms (though it can handle a lot more) you'll be fine wiring it in parallel or series.

Just so you understand, a DVC (Dual voice coil sub) has 2 voice coils, each voice coil has a positive and negative input and their respective impedance. So in a SVC (single voice coil) sub, you will have 1 positive and 1 negative input. Usually SVC are 4ohms, so you'll have no problem wiring this up.

Alpine Type S are rated at 300wrms, there are a few 2nd hand going around and can be had for around $150-$200 with a box.

Since you're aiming for SQ, Alpine would probably best your best bet. If you want to be different, Rockford P1 or P2 subs are also very punchy. Eclipse subs are also very good... why don't you head up to a reputable car audio specialist (not jb/autobarn/wow/strathfield and the likes) and have a listen. In the end, it's all up to what YOU want.

Hope i helped a bit and good luck

given that you've got quality cabling hooked up and your system is properly tuned then its probably safe to say its a fairly decent SQ sub.

half of a SQ system is the tuning thats involved so its not only about the gear. Even if you have top-notch gear but isn't tuned then it'll still sound like shite.

On the topic of PDX amps how would you rate it out of curiousity ?

i wouldnt classify the type r as a sq sub.. still decent tho

if you're aiming for true SQ be prepared to sped ALOT of time tuning. i hate when people ask "are you aiming for SQ or SPL" when the majoirty of the time its just a daily driver...

I cant really rate my PDX amp since its the only one i have had. But compared to my mates system it cranks much better then their type S and the other guy with 2 12" xplodes.

    Hi Guys,

What size wire would be the best from amp to sub, i may have to upgrade it as it was the only wire i had at the time.

I think it is 8 gauge atm.

    8 gauge is all good.

think its <1.5k rms for 8 gauge so your all good there
