Comparison SI to VTI-R

i'm looking to buy a 97+ prelude. with the money i have, i can either buy a clean Si or a thrashed Vti-R
just wondering how major is the difference between the two engines? and would stock Si prelude engines have vtec? :S

No,Si is not Vtec.

Obviously it's not a good idea to buy any "thrashed" car.
If you're not worried about every last kw then an Si is fine.
Either keep looking for a better Vtir or settle with the Si.

Are you getting manual or auto?
If auto then be wary,the tiptronic autos can be a nightmare and usually play up and cost $$$

the one i'm looking at is a 98 model auto, i heard it was only the 97 models that had failed tiptronic? or does it also apply to the 98 models?

Save up a lil bit more & get a good condition manual VTi-R, it's worth the extra $$$

Si = F series engine? 110kw tops..

Vti-R = H22a... 145kw approx....even if it was thrashed.. you'd be making more power than an Si..

Other things include 5 Stud lug pattern vs 4 stud...and thats all i know hehe

VtiR has sunroof, Si does not.
standard 15" on Si, Vtir has 16"
and the different engine.
i dont know much more.

Si = H23 2.3l dohc non vtec
vtir = H22 2.2l dohc vtec

based on my observations of back to back dyno graphs the H23a looks more powerful over the H22 until the H22 hits vtec and has more power and torque.

describe the 'feel'?

there are a few things that would get screwed in a gearbox that would just change the 'feel'.. usually more detrimental... you sure it's not clutch slip? revving but going nowhere?

hmm i'm not sure but every time the gear changes, theres a slight pull back? like it's slowing down, just feels slower than other preludes i've driven
