The award-winning Mazda2 now features a dynamic new look and host of significant mechanical upgrades that boost performance and cut exhaust emissions.
Mazda2 becomes the only volume-selling car in its class offering Activematic automatic transmission, which incorporates a manual gear selection mode, across the range.
All Mazda2 models are powered by an 82 kilowatt, 1.5-litre engine and the range remains priced from $15,990 with air conditioning.
Activematic-equipped models deliver improved economy with average fuel consumption falling from 7.2 to 7.0L/100km under Government 81/01 testing.
......Mechanically, engine modifications that include revised exhaust gas timing and the adoption of an electronic throttle, help boost torque delivery between 1500rpm and 3000rpm and improve linear acceleration feel.
The 1.5-litre Sequential Valve Timing (SV-T) engine, which develops a strong 82 kilowatts of power and 141Nm of torque, now complies with the strict Euro Step III emission regulations. Engine weight has been trimmed by 2.2 kilograms.
Other mechanical upgrades include the addition of electric power steering, a system that is based on the unit found in the company’s RX-8 flagship.
