    [CL9] - A Pillar Removal

    Hi All,

Just looking for a quick heads up before I dive into the deep end.
Has anyone removed the A Pillars on a Lux Spec before.
Should I be careful of the airbag?
Do you just pry off the "SRS Curtain Airbag" Logo and that revels a bolt or a screw for example?
Or is it just clips all the way along, just pry off?

    Any "How Too's" any where?

    Thanks in advance.

I have always been told to disconnect the battery before starting, that way the airbag wont go off. I had a car kit put it and the aerial cable ran behind the passenger side A pillar, he didnt disconnect the battery but just used very tender prying with a flathead screwdriver to push it out enough to feed the cable down.

Still.. better to be safe than sorry, d/c the battery. And ensure you dont stick the screwdriver through anything.

Are you sure the airbag wont be deployed .. (whats the word...) mechanically??

Are you sure it relies on power?? I thought maybe when you get hit, it some how mechanically? triggers the explosion that makes the air bags deploy.

Disconnect the battery and wait 30 minutes to be safe. Don't hammer at the airbag and you'll be alright.

Please refer to my previous thread, I am in the process of instaling an Auto Dim Rear View Mirror. Just need to run the wires down for it.

pop off the little cap that says srs air bag, there should be a torx screw in there, t20 or t25 from memory... once you got that undone pull it from the top working your way down, only 2 trim clips in it so it should come off fairly easily

ps- you shouldnt have to disconnect the battery, unless your gonna start applying voltage to wires in there the air bag wont go off, buuuut if it makes you feel better/safer i guess it wont hurt

    All done...

    Quite easy actually.

Just unclip the SRS logo, then this turns 90 degrees, then pulling from the top; unclip that clip and the next clip about 15cm futher down the A Pillar. Just two clips in total and no screws...

Auto Dim Mirror now installed and working well!

To remove the A pillar you will need an angle grinder with a cut off wheel. Expect quite a lot of dammage though and it will need welding back in place afterwards otherwise the widscreen may fall out.
