    Importing FD2 and JDM cars

    Hi guys, a newbie here from across the ditch. I will be moving over to Melbourne soon in a few months. I was wondering if you guys at Aus are allowed to import FD2 Civic Type-R or CL7 Accord Euro-R (both JDM spec cars)?

    I heard one will need to apply for import licence, but is it easy? I heard you guys have EP3 Civic Type-R though.

    Cheers

    pretty sure NZ have far superior import rules than to here because of the nature of the automotive industry within NZ. i would think that you would have more luck at actually looking at importing it into NZ before you move then bring it here with you.

    you will need to own the car overseas for 12 months before you can bring the car into Australia by personal import.

    own means registered in your name while you are in the same country.
    GD3 -> EP3 -> RB3

    FS Rays nuts etc

    As above, the FD2 and the CL7 isn't on the SEVS listing and no RAWS workshop has (or cbf) applying for it. Only path atm is personal import.

    NZ is tightening down slowly on their importing rules as well so not so easy anymore.

    Thanks guys, just that I won't be here for another 12+ months. I found that NZers and temporary residents (those who hold NZ passports) aren't entitled to personal import into Australia, unless I am going to take up Aussie citizenship or permanent residency.

    By the way, do you think the FD2 Type-R will be allowed to entered into the SEVS list sometime later? What about the CL7?

    Is it difficult for joe public like myself to apply for the FD2 to be included in the SEVS list? Cheers

    Have not heard of them tightening up the import rules in NZ though.

    No, the CL7 and FD2R will probably never enter SEVS.

    As said above by Aaronng FD2_MugenRR, its unlikely that they'll be approved, the CL7 is almost identical to the CL9 offered locally except with different motor and other minor things, not "special" enough to pass the criterias.

    As for the FD2R, FN2R already in Australia offering Civic Type-R to the public. If you want to personally apply for SEVS, you'll need to get past at least 2 of the 4 criterias, then have several components tested by Universities and other Authorities/Instutitions because Australia thinks Japan's standard aren't good enough (Funny enough Europe's are) after all that then crash test... Even after all that, they may reject it like they did with a few car, Aristo they rejected a fair few times before accepting =|

    FD2R won't pass because we have the Civic VTi and Sport. The only way to get an FD2R is through personal import or Honda Australia brings it in.
