    VTEC solenoid gaskets question

I have an oil leak from the donut shaped oil seal between the vtec solenoid housing and the head. I am going to replace the other gaskets while I'm at it.

My question is where would you source the oil seal and gaskets from? I went to my local Honda dealer, and the engine being an early B16A presumably from a tegra with cable gearbox in a ED9 CRX they can't find the right part no on their system. The closest thing being an aust spec EG2 CRX with the B16A but the parts guy reckons it looks different to what I have.

    Thanks in advance.

may sound drastic but i had problems with mine and was told to replace the whole vtec solenoid. should be able to pick one up off a b18c for under $100 and that should fit up very easy. i have not used one of another model so ask around first. parts are avaliable for b18's and b16a 2's. i just had a dirty gasket/filter, and it cleaned up nicley.

Do you mean the Cam end plug?

Here are some B16A1 part numbers:

    Head gasket - 12341-PR3-000
    Spark plug donuts - 12342-PR3-000
    Cam end plug - 12513-PH5-003
    Vtec solenoid A - 15825-PR3-005
    Vtec solenoid B - 36172-PR3-005

I have had my Vtec solenoid off recently... i fully dismantled it even the little spring and piston thing inside and gave it a good cleanout with carby cleaner and a good scrub to get all the glazed oil deposits off.. came up looking brand new, the internals move smoothly now aswell!

Let me know if you need any more part numbers.

Thanks for the great advice guys.

crxtasy: I'll replace the cam end plug and strip the solenoid and give it a good clean like you did. Don't I have to replace any gaskets once I remove the vtec solenoid? Or you re-used the gasket and coated them with gasket goo like ECU-MAN suggested.

You can bought box of 'O' rings from supercheap or Bunning Warehouse for a few buck and hope one of them will fit. Total Tools on special for a box of 419 pieces of 'O' rings for $20. This is my case: I lost my MAP sensor 'O' ring. So I use 8.5mm Water tap 'O' ring and it fit and working fine for year now.

you meant $40 from Honda right? they were ones I was after but they don't think what's on their system would fit my car. I think I'll just go ahead and get those 2 gaskets from a later model and hope they'll fit.
