Cleaning engine bay.

Engine bay has gotten rather dirty, along the firewall, engine, and other electronics parts.
So during my free time I'd like to give it a good clean.

I have never done so before and fear the worst about water getting into the engine and other electronics.

Can anyone give detailed instructions to do so?

Plastic bag over alarm etc?

hmm i was thinking of doing the same thing soon.
got one of those steam jet yellow machine ma jiggies...
is it safe to use those?
