Arrow opinions on changing to CRV block for B16A

    hey guys,
was jus pondering on the idea of changin my current 1.6L B16A2 block to the CRV 2.0L block.. have heard of that idea but dont know much bout it... i'd like more power and was just pondering bout this idea.. have been recommended to go the turbo kit (cough andy!) but was just wondering the pros and cons on changin the block... and the cost differences...

    cheers

Do a search... When I looked into it, i was told b20 crank is no good for high rpm, so you will need to source one from another motor. B18C5 crank is best. You might need to run an oil line for the VTEC? Bottom line is get somone who has done it before.

I was thinking of the CR-VTEC motor for my sol, but really the sols are just too heavy for NA. It's not like the mirage at only 900kg odd. IMO the CR-VTEC combination is really at home in the more lightweight eg models.

it's relatively easy to do and requires few parts and should give you noticeably more torque.

BUT there is no way you will be able to rev it out to 8krpm without spending $$$$

I think you will find it is pretty much even depending on how far you want to go with either. Dollars per kilowatt the turbo is always going to be cheaper, but the CR-VTEC has the capability to be alot more tractable than a cheap turbo kit.

By tractable I guess I was really meaning the throttle response and low down torque. A cheap turbo kit means air-air intercooler, non BB turbo, etc... Due to the selection of cheaper components, the lag and throttle response of such a kit would be far from ideal. Whereas the CR-VTEC is free from turbo lag and should have excellent throttle response, plus a significant torque advantage from the extra cubes (till the B16 hits boost).
