EG gli head changed to vtec?

is it possible to modify the head on the 1.5 efi motor in the EG gli sedan to make it vtec for a little more sports and fuel econ...

just poped into my head as a cheaper option as opposed to b16a transplant

car is for a daily driver its not going to race etc for the moment

the 1.5 just suxors way to much tho and im trying to think of ways to smooth it out, i dont mind low power but the way the motor responds just isnt nice/refined compared to my B series i had in my Dc2 vtir, yes i know its alot bigger motor but i mean the more refined feel

yeh u can do a mini-me conversion. basically wack a sohc vtec head onto your motor. theres also other things involved but don't ask me about them.

also u can put a sohc vtec motor in your car. such as the jdm d15b or d16y8. those motors shouldn't cost much. probably around 400 - 700 dollars. then add labour you are probably looking at around 1k - 1.2?

how much difference will a d15b or d16y8 make?

would it be easier to do the head swap for similar gains in refinement?

i love the civic and i want to make it a b or k project one day but for now its only a runabout until i can organise getting something like a Audi A4 or a Wrx

    jdm d15b makes 98kw
    d16y8 makes 96kw i think

if u do get the jdm d15b make sure its the jdm one. the rocker cover will have vtec on it and the block will say d15b.

but yeh dont expect it to be a rocket ship. but it should make it more fun to drive.

with swapping the head i wouldnt be able to tell u which one yielded more power or cost less. but if u know what ur doing and u do the labour urself i think the head swap will cost you less. if you also use some pistions from a d series with higher compression it would also help.

recommend the d16y8, it aint no beast but youll probably find a few of those heads around. cheap too and responds to the cheap bolt on mods well.

jdm d15b is a great head, 3 stage vtec, with econo mode gives u like 3L/100kms but its harder to source around these parts? someone correct me on this?

ah i got the same problem. gli and looking for something with more kick. not looking to go crazy but atleast something that would give a small amount of potential as im just starting out with modding.

so this d15b is hard to find in aus? its looking real good if its around 1~1.3k fitted.

don't think they are too hard to find. found one in a gen 3 crx halfcut. just that the guy quoted me 2100 for engine, gearbox and wiring which was a rip off so i didn't touch it.

lol yeah iv been looking at just changing the head and putting a nice CAI system on my car

if i do a full transplant it will be hard finding cheap I/H/E parts that dont sound like shit, im used to the good stuff so wen it comes to cheap aftermarket parts id prefer just to keep it stock lol the car is already pretty clean, has a nice looking standard spoiler and i got some nice fat fives from a DC2 for it and it looks like a good package, only thing i might change otherwise is to a jdm front bar

iv got my mugen cat back sitting in the shed... but i really need to sell it for the funds... lol
