Dying car carpet

Just an idea..

If you took your car carpet out, gave it a wash, and used a regular fabric dye on it.. Would it work on the carpet?

Would the dye stick? Appaerntly you can use this dye from lincraft that comes in a small tin.. It's general fabric dye.

As i was removing my carpet to clean it, thought I might dye it in the process!

i'd be worried about it rubbing off, i have seen it happen when people dye seats

I just want the bits you can see black, and i personally don't think you rub your feet anywhere near there LOL

i think theres a spray for that they sell at autoshops, cant remember exactly wat lol, ill try find out.

Tried that shit, it doesn't go to well.

It "paints" onto the carpet, makes it look shit. I actually want to dye the fibers black!

i'd say the spray would just cover the surface of the carpet, and if you have floor mats which go over it i think it'd be okay

don't rub your hand on it though, probably come off in flakes and you'll have a grey patch here and there, just give your passengers a pre-drive warning

I have sprayed parts of my carpet where the colour had come out and now you can't pick it. You can't just saturate the carpet with the stuff tho, you have to dust it onto the carpet until it reaches the desired colour and then it will come out good.
Initially the carpet feels and looks rough but after a couple of vaccuumings it it turns out good

I think i'll give that a miss, and try actual dye..

On todays mission i went to spotlight.. Found a few dyes that could well work!

One requires a colourfix and a few grams of salt... the other is just dye only.

We shall find out on the weekend.. I'm lacking a few sockets (at dads workshop), so when i get them tomorrow i'll proceed with removing the carpet and dying it.
