    [CL9] Replacement Keys

Hi guys, just bought an 04 Euro Luxury from Eastern Honda in Melb. Awaiting pickup next week because we got the tinting done and theyre giving us a better drivers seat because the one in there has some wear and tear on the leather.

Salesman calls up a couple of days after we put the deposit down and says to us that the car doesnt come with a spare set of keys. Previous owner musn't have handed them back to the dealer at trade-in(!).

Salesman estimates that a replacement key by itself and no remote would cost about 100bucks and a remote a couple hundred more. We're trying to get Eastern Honda to foot the bill since we werent informed of this beforehand. Mum even asked about the spare key when we bought the car (they couldnt find them and they said theyd get back to us about it). Seems like the salesman is getting the run around from the used car manager, this seems to be the only problem we've had buying the car.

Asked to speak to the used car manager after 3 days of getting the run around. He says he'll check with the service dept and hangs up abruptly, and that was nearly an hour ago.

What do you guys think should be done? We'd be prepared to pay even half of the price (How much do you think a key and a remote would cost?). Just seems the manager is being a royal pain in the behind, and doesnt seem to be very interested in customer service, spoiling the rest of the experience we had.

EDIT: After lots of chasing up, and checking with the Service Dept ourselves (turns out the manager just fobbed us off and never checked with them.) The Service dept quoted us 295 for the remote and key, and 55 to program it. We got the manager to agree to pay for half of the cost, quite unwillingly i might say, but hopefully this is the last of this matter. Do you guys think this was a good outcome?

I think that sucks! I dunno about naming companies...maybe it was and honest mistake. I think that they should foot the bill, as when buying a car from anyone (esp the dealers), you'd expect a spare set of keys!

I'd expect them to pay for a new key, especially if it is a Honda dealer.

2 sets of key is the basic standard feature of any car these days. If one is missing, they should have inform you before you sign on the dotted line.

Its like selling you a car with 3 wheels only, and want you to pay another $500 or something for the 4th wheel. (you should also check if the spare wheel is there or not. 04s has space saver spare wheel)

Having a key lost, that means someone has possession of that key, that means there is slightly higher risk of your car been stolen. (touchwood). You could argue this point with the manager if you want to cancel the deal.

really, i was under the impression, dealers will only have to sell you a road worthy car, and only having 1 key will still make it roadworthy.

i dont understand. You wouldnt pay for a key to use your own car. So you would have it sit in your driveway indefinitely?

    Hmm. Ok then.

edit: Oh you mean the dealer was dodgey for giving one key? yes i agree. But in my case i lost 1 key so i paid the ransom.

yeah but he has one key.
if you buy a 2nd hand car, it doesn't always come with a 2nd key as well.
a privately used car that is.

At the very least the dealership should have arranged to have your car and key reprogrammed.

I would have expected the dealer to tell the buyer that there was only 1 key and he had to pay to get a new one cut and programmed before the contract was signed.
