hi i own a 99 ek cxi manual hatch and in 3rd, 4th or 5th gear the car pings bad, i've tried octane booster did nothing, i've tried 98 octane fuel and still pings. Timing is good, after trying to retard the timing it had no power so that didnt help. Anyone have any ides?

nah i haven't its probably due for a good service, but pinging is the fuel igniting before the piston hits the top of the stroke. Is there any problems related to the dizzy or coil?

Dude at what speed are you in these gears.

You sure that pinging isnt a bearing sound?
    Theyre 2 different things.

Any signs that the engine's been runing rich or burning oil? Your problem might be caused by carbon deposits inside the combustion chamber left by unburnt fuel due to rich mixture, or by burnt oil deposits.

It is possible to 'steam clean' the combustion chambers using water trickled into the throttle body while the engine is revved moderately. The water turns to steam inside the combustion chamber and dislodges deposits which are then passed out the exhaust.

I know this sounds crazy, but it has often been known to work.

Check ignition timing? could be out a tooth, if not could just be loose exhaust shield making a rattle.
