    Question Squeaky Steering - HELP!

I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem...

I have a Honda Civic Vi 5 Dr Hatch and it has some sort of squeaking noise going on when I am driving, it happens constantly.

I had the same problem 2 months ago and so took it to the local mechanic who said that it had electronic steering and that I would have to take to Honda. It went away for a while but has just come back

    Can anyone please help me

It is coming from the steering wheel when you turn the wheel it sounds like some sort of squeak like rubber rubbing on something.... it only happens when I am driving

I am not much of a car chick I just drive it and fill it up with petrol every now and then

^^^ too true, although there are 2 places behind the steering wheel that needs to be lubricated. 1 is shown in the link above, and the other is behind the steering wheel (turn over wheel to see). there is a large metal contact surface thats needs to be lubricated, just use some petroleum jelly/vaseline.

Thank you guys much appreciated...I will give it a go (try anyway)

I told you I was hopeless with cars. Last thing; if not coming from steering wheel could it possibly be from steering rack and if so would this be quite costly to fix

    try this, need 2 people.
with the engine running, someone lift the bonnet and listen for the noise while you turn the wheel left and right a couple of times. if it sounds like its coming from the power steering pump, its not good. this could cost a fair bit.

The Vi has electronic steering. I have never seen a motor on these fail, only the racks themself gets faulty in that they get hard to steer one way or even both ways, then the rack requires replacement but the motor should be fine.

As for a squeak, depends really where it's coming from.. The racks generally never squeak so look for something in the column.
