    d16y1 vs d16a8

Ok so basically a pretty simple question that i'm hoping you guys can answer for me...
what is faster for plain and simple 1/4 mile and general quickness; the d16y1 sohc vtec powered civic vti or the d16a8 dohc powered civic si?

i am asking the question as i am soon to be buying a d series eg5/6 civic and was wondering which motor is best...i'm also planning on doing the basic I/H/E and other bolt ons.
any help would be greatly appreciated.

    cheers.

ive had both.. i belive that the si has more torque mainly beacuse it is a dohc. ( double over head cam) but then again just a tad more on fuel... but if u want sound for the for vti... but at the end... there the pretty much the same thing... they both has advantages and dis advantages... good luck..

The d16a8 is the better engine. Yes same peak power 96kw and 1 less nm of torque 140 vs 141 - but in all situations it is a better engine than the y1. On and off street performance proves this.

But . . . Both are old engines and will not respond well if at all to ANY modifications. Simply isn't worth modifying any d series unless you put a turbo on.

It comes with a b16a2 obd1 engine. Also not an option as not locally released or widely available from private imports.

drive a d16a8 then say which ones the best one, in my opinion ( i've driven both ) there pretty much similar, the d16a8 has just that little bit extra nothing to extreme,

alll d-series pretty much the same dude, i've driven d16y1 in my own car, and i've driven a few other civics, only diffrence is, the sound in each, some sound diffrent with DOHC, some sound diffrent with vtec, some sound diffrent with neither of those 2 things...... i think D-series all practically the same... but d16a8 is the way 2 go if u are going to be picky about them....
