Speakers are unique in their own way. Go and LISTEN to each pair and see which one you like for the music YOU listen to. imo, alpine type Rs sound a lot more harsh, but to each their own

2ndly, find the sub that YOU want after listening to it, then find an amp to suit. If you get a 4 channel amp, u can "bridge" 2 channels together to make one powerful channel to power your sub and use the other 2 spare channels to power your speakers.

For someone new to car audio, maybe just match up the power ratings, but most importantly, save up and buy the things u want AFTER listening to them at a local car audio specialist store. (JB hifi is not a car audio specialist, they do not know much if anything other than what is written on a box)

EDIT: MAX WATTAGE (POWER) means shit all, do not compare or even LOOK at these power ratings. RMS or continuous is what you're after. Any idiot who tells u that max power rating is the bomb is not the person u're gonna wanna listen to

I'm restoring my car and just put in a stereo system
    1) 4 channel 1000watt VDO amp - $100 2nd hand off ebay
    2) 4 factory 2nds ebay 6" 3 way speakers - $20
    3) 4 Ebay China Tweeters - $10
    4) Some JVC deck with MP3, single CD - Free
    5) Cables from Jaycar - maybe $30~$50

Pretty surprised with the sound quality - sounds really good to me

    Very true,

listen to as many splits/speakers as possible and then choose - but for a small car you wont need alot to have it sound good

i reckon a pair of splits and a two channel amp to power a subwoofer would be a good upgrade from the stock sound system.
MB Quart 6" Splits: 230 but some jb's are selling them for 164 http://www.jbhifionline.com.au/car-s...=detail-button
Kicker amp + 2ch sub: 336 from jb as well. http://www.jbhifionline.com.au/car-s...=detail-button

from what i've experienced the MB Quart splits are awesome for their price, provide a clear high range trebel, and a decent midrange at about 40Watts RMS, they can be runned directly from an after market head unit and that kick sub + amp combo should give you a decent punch. Im running the same pair of splits but with a JL 300/4 amp and a 12w0 sub and it sounds bloody amazing, im not even running any rear speakers but the JL amp+sub combo is more expensive. The kicker combo should be, definitely a big upgrade from the factory sound system.

ps: my MB quart splits are connected directly to the headunit, dont have time to connect them to the amp yet and because they sound so good already i just cant be bothered :P

this is slightly over your budget though, and remember you still gotta buy the wiring kit and rca cables etc for your amp that'll probably cost you another 50
