Service manual actually says that timing belt should be changed at 168,000kms. Anybody need proof of it i can email them the actual page.
This applies for a 98 integra gsi or V-tec alike.
Only in oz do they make people change timing belt at 100,000kms in order to make more money off us. Does anybody know of a integra from 98 upwards that has snapped a timing belt before 150,000kms???
the 93-98 integras they reckon can reach 130,000kms easily with no timing belt change.

Hey guys,
I've been told by my mechanic that a timing belt change needs not only a new belt but seals etc, and depending on the model of Honda, an extra belt.
He is a reputable guy in Newcastle and depending on the Honda model, he's quoted me between $400-$700, including labour.
What do you guys think?

Hey mate,
Hanny's sounds like a good deal. However with most services you get what you pay for.
I'd be interested in finding out EXACTLY what gets replaced in a timing belt change by Hannys. I'm no mechanic, but if you don't do all that is required (changing seals, etc) then obviously parts cost less and labour time is reduced.
If someone has Hanny's number and can get a list of what he carries out in a timing belt change, that would be great for a comparision. Otherwise, comparing prices is just empty talk.

My CV joints now have 298,000kms on them since the car left the factory. They are only now starting to click. Why yours would be wearing at 100,000 is beyond me - as long as they aren't torn or cracked.
Go to a real mechanic for a second opinion (aka Robbie or Peter at Hanny's).

Think about it his way
Your Mec is quoting about half the cost that Hannys charged to re-built my whole engine
So $400 is not that bad for a 100.000l Service and thats if they change everything (all fliters/pumps and so on)
But $700 is mad
