    Filling Tank - Fuel Blows Back Up - Why?

    I have a new Civic and I went to top up the tank (petrol is at it's low point in the cycle today) but it took me about 2 minutes to get 4 litres in the tank after which I just gave up.

    Does anybody know why this is? I wonder if there is a gauze 'anti-siphon' filter that gets wetted all over with fuel and wont let the air out. The bowser pump was pretty fast actually so maybe that's also got something to do with it.

    Anyone else had this problem with their Civics?

    I had a problem - only happened once, fuel went down low so I refilled and filled the tank, and it took 45 mins to raise the fuel meter in the car. Usually it's instant.

    Not sure if it has to do with your problem though..

    are u talking bout the actual fuel trigger at the stations? you need to hold it at 50% for a bit then fully press it.

    hope thats what ur talking bout, happens with every car in my family, i think its coz the fuel is coming outa the hose so quick that it hits the pipe leading to the fuel pump
    making the trigger believe it should stop flowing fuel to the petrol tank so it doesnt over fill.

    ^this.....try to insert the nozel in different angle...having that issue as well..

    i agree with fitme. this has happened with my fd1, just try at a different angle it will work

    Yes, I went back to that station a few hours later and tried again with a different pump and it went in fine. It seems the fuel inlet pipe turns down at a pretty sharp angle just past the opening and perhaps the fuel tends to splash around and hit the sensor at the nozzle tip. As you suggest, I'll try twisting the hand piece around at different angles if this happens again. I can see why those racing teams have pit stop crews armed with pressurized fuel guns!
