    This is definitely a bad idea. Use spacers to decrease effective offset, but certainly don't start machining the pads of the wheels to increase offset.

    Buy correct wheels, or buy wheels with high offset and add some solid spacers - although still not a great idea.

    buying spacers would give him less offset, but machining would give him more positive offset.
