Timing Belt

Need to change my timing belt atm. Would you guys consider an aftermarket one instead of a genuine Honda timing belt? Its already 120,000+ and dun wanna risk it snappin. You guys know of any cheap places to get it from that is still decent eg Bursons?

OEM is best unless you plan on spinning it to 9k rpm or something

definately OEM. Definately do not use CHEAP aftermarket belts, something like a spoon belt etc would be ok IMO. But no need as Wyn said.

OEM is easier to source and they are perfect anyway IMO.. the last 100,000kms+, cant go wrong. Im pretty sure they are priced around $70-100, but dont quote me on that and if getting it done at a dealership ive heard of prices ranging from $200-400 (including an OEM belt) installed. Mine cost me $200 from my local mechanic but he installed the belt incorrectly. Be careful where u get your belt done.

btw.. get it changed soon....
i was due for my second timing belt swap at 200,000kms.. it snapped at 225,000.

they can last longer, but be careful.

thanks guys...my mechanic says he can do it for 220 plus part and another family friend says he can do it for 120.....so depending on how much the OEM will cost me then

just get it done at honda

for something that is in control of ur whole engine. and u're risking blowing up ur engine. theres really no need to save 100

just go to ur honda service department and get it done for $400 or $500

alot of ppl have had problems with normal mechanics doing major services in hondas. as hondas are a bit trickier

plus from what i can guess, your EK1 still has the d16y in it which means its a SOHC... much easier to do than a DOHC!

but is still room for issues if not familiar with honda engines!

OEM HONDA belt is best - or go for TODA or SPOON aftermarket - not any REPCO crap etc. Make sure ehoever fits your belt remembers to re-install the belt-guides !!
