[Euro] Impressions: Lightweight flywheel, HD clutch

I recently had a lightweight JDM flywheel and exedy sports organic clutch fitted to my car so i thought i'd share the results.

I've had it for a few days now and have only just starting taking the revs a bit higher (its good to let the new clutch wear at low rpm for a few days to make sure it's even wear) and the car really revs a lot quicker now.

    Driveability:

The engine revs quite smoothly and the car doesn't feel overly jerky or seem to lose speed too quickly in the lower gears. I actually prefer the way the car revs out now, it's defintiely quicker and the engine feels more responsive to more subtle changes in throttle input. The clutch took a bit of getting used to. My stock clutch was quite progressive and you could feather it a bit while reverse parking etc. the exedy unit is very bitey and i found this a bit hard to bgein with. It's probably exagerated because the clutch is so new but it is definitely more on/off than stock. I found slow take offs a fair bit harder because of this, but unlike the stock system you get a lot more feedback during engangment/disengagement.

    Performance:

The clutch makes taking off briskly heaps easier, feed a decent bit of throttle as you let the clutch out and it doesnt take off it launches. The first few gears (1,2,3 and to some extent fourth) all seem to rev out noticeably quicker and although i've yet to do a 0-100km or 0-400m test at the track i can tell the car is noticeably quicker (possibly .5 of a second off the 0-100km but that's just an estimate). I think this is a very worthy performance mod, more so than a catback exhaust and easily on par with a good intake

There'll be some more impresions to come as i have the car for a bit longer but if i missed anything i'm more than happy to answer questions etc. I know not to many ppl have done this mod

besides the clutch and flywheel my car also has 2 more subtle changes and ill be taking some pictures for the appearence/gallery section sometime soon.

    Cliffnotes:

Clutch + flywheel = good performance mod

the clutch isn't overly stiff but it bites noticeably harder, is less progressive (more on/off) and im happy with how it takes the cars power (haha very easily).

if someone with a stock euro felt like doin what you suggested i'd possibly be up for it but i'll be using steve (baboo's) times as a benchmark to see how my car's going. Steve's car had a lengthy list of very good mods and i can come close or perhapy even go past his times in the future ill be very happy

i'd also like to give a big thanks to the guys at Centrax (www.centraxauto.com.au) for all the hard work they put in to getting this done for me in a single day (all the parts I had installed on the day came to about 10 hours labour with minimal brakes!) - these guys know the meaning of customer service

Thanks for the review Chris! Keep us updated with how it goes.

Couple of questions - when you say JDM flywheel - from which vehicle? CL7, DC5R?

Also can you weigh the stock flywheel for us? How does the weight compare to the JDM one?

Last question - do you know the part number for the exedy clutch you have?

Is the Lightweight flywheel worth putting on an Auto Euro. Will it rev easier do you think ?

By JDM flywheel i mean the part ofrom the JDM integra type R (DC5R). It's a honda oem part that fits the euro without a problem and is a more conservative 4.7kg.

I already weighed the stock flywheel when we had the parts out, im suprised i didnt mention it in my original post. the stock unit for the Euro is 8kg (JDM provides 3.3kg saving). We also weighed the stock clutch assembly and it was 16kg, this aftermarket exedy/JDM combo was 9kg.

I'm not sure of the part number, i'll see if its on the box when i get home.

Wow, Your Eurio is certainly in contention for "biggest Loser".
3.3 kg + 7 kg = 10.3 Kg ... that's a useful weight loss for front part of the car. definitely can improve car handling too.
